The fund was created to assist local businesses in starting/expanding, buying equipment, purchasing real estate, and creating/retaining local jobs. Interest rates as low as 5% and terms range from several months to over 5 years. *Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation and the Vermont Small Business Development Center offer free assistance with the loan application. Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation works with entrepreneurs and business owners in Vermont to strengthen the local economy, and as a result the community. They specialize in economic development and can provide support with addressing challenges, setting goals, navigating and applying for state grant and loan opportunities, employee training, and locating commercial real estate. What do I need to qualify? The business must be located in Hartford, Vermont and up to date on municipal tax payments. Applicants are also asked for reasonable collateral and to have an ownership stake in the business. Preference is given to businesses that can use other financing sources to compliment the fund.
