Light River Junction First Fridays Film Premiere
From May to August 2021, a mostly outdoor festival of film and live performance, all free, takes place in White River Junction, curated by White River Indie Film. Enjoy food and beverages, pop into galleries, peruse film and light/sound installations, participate in film workshops, celebrate our Upper Valley arts community, and re-boot your social skills after the COVID confinement!
Stuff is happening throughout downtown White River, but the main site is the parking area at 40-50 Currier Street, behind the Hotel Coolidge and Gates-Briggs building, with multiple projection surfaces as well as a 20-foot-high portable screen for longer films and film/music performance.
Each First Friday emphasizes a different theme, so watch this space and others for updates on the next event!
August 6: Vermont Premiere of Jay Craven’s Martin Eden
As part of an evening of outdoor art and media, WRIF is proud to present the Vermont Premiere of Jay Craven’s newest work, an adaptation of the Jack London epic Martin Eden. For technical reasons, the screenings will take place INDOORS, in the Briggs Opera House, upstairs in the Hotel Coolidge.
Martin Eden tells the story of a poor, rough-hewn, and unschooled sailor who unexpectedly meets Ruth Morse, a magnetic young woman of means and education. Their unconventional attraction upends both lives and propels timely themes of impossible love, the confines of class, aspiration to the American Dream, and the quest for a comfortable place in an inconstant world.
