The Upper Valley Farm Worker Learning Collaborative wrapped up the season with a visit to Luna Bleu Farm last week. It was a perfect place to gather to celebrate the winding down of the growing season, as you can tell by the beautiful group photo.
Luna Bleu’s apprentices Angela, Lisa, and Ellen confidently led the tour of the farm, which includes fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, and dairy. Tim and Suzanne, Luna Bleu’s owners, then talked about the farm’s successes with winter growing – which is tricky in the hills of Vermont.
Luna Bleu has 4 hard-working women apprentices for the year, and they were eager to see the other farms participating in the collaborative and learn from experienced farmers. In fact, Luna Bleu was represented at every single gathering this season – very impressive!
For the final pot luck, the Luna Bleu crew cooked pizzas in their wood-fired oven. Everyone pitched in to make the pizzas topped with fresh veggies and Vermont cheeses. Sunrise Farm brought a heavenly farm-raised ham to share, and there were delicious salads and desserts!
We had such a great group of farms, farm workers, interns, and apprentices take part in the program this summer. Every gathering was exciting, enjoyable, and educational. The pizza party at Luna Bleu Farm was a perfect way to end a fun and productive learning collaborative season.
