Overview
Fuel Tank Repair, Removal, or Replacement Programs (what we will be calling Fuel Tank Programs throughout the rest of this page) help folks pay to have their heating fuel tanks repaired, removed, or even replaced with a new fuel tank when they may not be able to afford it on their own. In both Vermont and New Hampshire, these programs are run through the state government’s environmental departments because leaky fuel tanks can be harmful to the environment. In Vermont, the Department of Environmental Conservation has two separate programs: one for aboveground fuel tanks called the Residential Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Removal/Replacement Program, and one for fuel tanks that are buried underground called the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Removal/Replacement Program. In New Hampshire, both above and belowground fuel tanks are covered under the same program, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Safetank Program. Below, you’ll find information about how to apply in both states.
Who Should Apply:
To apply for the Fuel Tank Programs in either Vermont or New Hampshire, you have to own your home and wait to do the work on your tank until you’ve sent in your application and have been approved.
