Move over, wrapping paper and candy bars: Here comes FarmRaiser.
Vital Communities is currently seeking schools to participate in FarmRaisers, an innovative approach to school fundraising that partners schools with local farms to generate funds while providing products that families need and want, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and supporting local economies.
“FarmRaiser offers much more than simply a fundraising opportunity,” said Vital Communities’ Valley Food & Farm Program Manager Becka Warren. “Schools get to sell delicious farm-fresh products, connect with community members and farms, and support school wellness policies, as well.”
As the 2014 growing season approaches, Vital Communities is seeking 15 Upper Valley schools to participate in FarmRaisers. Through the program, schools partner with local farms to offer products ranging from boxes full of mixed produce, to individual items such as tomatoes, spinach, meat, and even popcorn. School volunteers spearhead the program, determining everything from which farm(s) to work with, to what products to offer, when, and at what markup. Vital Communities provides a suggested timeline, outreach materials, and other resources to help make FarmRaisers successful.
