The day we were to plant our children’s garden at the Shaker Museum the pelting rain sent us inside to plan out the garden on paper instead. Girl Scout Troop 10610 with scouts from White River Junction, Lebanon, West Lebanon, and Enfield are taking the lead in this year’s children’s garden. They will meet weekly to plant, weed, re-plant, water, harvest their crops, participate in cooking workshops, and learn gardening skills from master gardeners. We will also learn about herbs in the Happy Griffiths Herb Garden. They will donate produce as it comes in to the Haven Food Shelf.
After planning out the garden with consideration to companion planting, the girls gave the two gardeners from the Shaker Museum permission to heel in the plants that have been a-waiting planting. This week they will plant their seeds and really begin their gardening adventure. This program is open for any children who would like to participate. We meet Tuesday evenings throughout the summer from 5:30-7pm. – Nan Munsey, Shaker Museum Education Chair, Enfiled Shaker Museum, Enfield, NH
