Grades 3, 4 and 5 launched their Colonial Studies unit with an authentic Colonial Thanksgiving. Families prepared dishes at home to contribute to the feast. Recipes included Blueberry Flummel, Beaten Biscuits, Venison and Moose Stew, Potato Cakes, Pumpkin Soup, and Dried Apple Rings. The students really seemed to enjoy tasting the traditional foods, and there was some research and discussion around which foods were available to the early settlers. Coming this Saturday: Farm to School table at the Barrett Hall Craft Fair,Saturday from 10-6 pm. We will sell “From Asparagus to Zucchini” cookbooks and Hurricane Flats popcorn, as well as student-made journals, note cards, wrapping paper, and dried apples. – Kate Reimanis, Newton School, Strafford, VT
