We are thankful and excited about our gardening! For many of the children it was their first hands-on experience with the entire process. We started by clearing out our beds and preparing the soil with compost. As we used our wheelbarrow and shovels to move the compost the students were so excited to also find a few worms! When the weather finally got warm enough we planted pumpkins and squash in barrels and green beans, carrots, lettuce and tomatoes in our garden.
The playground was also made beautiful by some new lilies, iris, and berry bushes. I believe that this experience has made some wonderful memories for the children here and it is our hope that these memories will be lasting. – Jen Tucker, Teacher, Magic Mountain Children’s Center, South Royalton, VT
