We finished up our farm-to-school planning grant, and in the December request for news already reported on our grand finale, the Harvest Pot Luck Lunch. For this “Thanksgiving celebration” event, students planned and prepared offerings to be shared by the entire school community using locally sourced foods on the day we did our annual Turkey Trot running race. What a fabulous way to finish out our year! We are the grateful recipients of a farm-to-school implementation grant for 2015/2016! Our focus will be on tying with local farmers to support our wonderful new salad bar and also upgrading our beloved vintage kitchen. The staff and students at Newbury Elementary are delighted to continue with their commitments to farm-to-school curricula and initiatives. It’s been such a great year and we’re fortunate to be supported as we move forward with our dream of making our school lunch healthier and simultaneously supportive of our local farmers. May the new year bring great health and joy to all of our fellow farm-to-school friends. – Kim Goody, Farm to School Coordinator, Newbury Elementary School, Newbury, VT
