Four needy families in Plainfield will benefit form our PES school garden for their holiday meal this year. Twenty pounds of potatoes and 12 pounds of carrots were recently harvested by Mrs. Heaton’s Advisory class. Mrs. Maslan’s second graders washed and weighed them. After doing the math to divide the produce into 4 equal amounts, they bagged up 5 pounds of potatoes and 3 pounds of carrots into 4 bags. Each group of students included a note about the origins of the vegetables. Stephanie Schell came in to visit the second graders, explain how the Community Food Pantry works, and how it benefits citizens in our community. We hope to continue to improve our school garden and help our neighbors in the future. – Kathleen Maslan, Plainfield School, Meriden, NH
