“Thanks to a big load of manure donated by our neighbors, the Vermont Alpaca Company, our Abenaki flint corn is over 6′ tall! The 3/4/5 cluster will learn about interdependence, both in the classroom and in the 3 Sisters Garden this fall. 7th and 8th graders will help plant fruit and nut trees in a local ‘Edible Pocket Park’ in science class. The K/1/2 cluster’s sunflower, herb, and veggie garden needs a quick weeding before the kids return. And unbeknownst to them, all Newton School staff will work together to prepare a harvest lunch during their inservice. Our program is full of fresh ideas and energy, thanks to the Farm to School Institute at Shelburne Farms in June.” – Kate Reimanis – The Newton School, Strafford, VT
