Hanover Street School held its annual Open House in October. The after-school Garden Club saw it as an opportunity to showcase their efforts. The students packaged the dried Mayflower, Cherokee and Rattlesnake beans that they had harvested at the end of the season. The packets were labeled and given away in exchange for a donation to CHAD. The students decided that they wanted to encourage others to grow and use their surplus to help other kids in our community. We also had two Boston Marrow Squash left over which a parent volunteered to make into soup. With donated compostable cups from the Lebanon Co-op, students served up delicious soup to parents and siblings. It was a natural fit with an existing school tradition and was very well received. – Marjie Bish, Hanover Street School, Lebanon, NH
