During August, Vital Communities transportation staff, along with our partners in the Community Transportation Transitions project, Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission, and our friends in the New Hampshire Mobility Management Network, held three listening sessions in Sullivan County to hear from residents about their transportation experiences.Comments ranged from the transportation challenges in rural areas faced by individuals who do not have consistent access to a personal vehicle to the need for greater awareness of the public transit options that already exist in the county. Opportunities and solutions included the need for greater investment in transportation infrastructure and the expansion of public transit options, including microtransit and e-bikes.
The feedback from these sessions will inform community-driven clean transportation plans as part of a three-state project funded by the Vehicle Technologies Office of the Department of Energy. More listening sessions will be scheduled for the future including one in Newport, NH in early October (exact date TBD). A survey that is open to all Upper Valley residents is also available here.
