When will the Upper Valley list shut down?
The Upper Valley List will stop accepting posts at the end of the business day on Tuesday, February 28.
How do I subscribe to the new lists?
You can subscribe to the new lists through this form: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7180089/My-Upper-Valley-List-Subscription-Preferences.
Starting March 1, you can subscribe to the new lists by going to each of their homepages:
EVENTS-UV: https://lists.vitalcommunities.org/lists/info/events-uv
GOODS-UV: https://lists.vitalcommunities.org/lists/info/goods-uv
SERVICESPLUS-UV: https://lists.vitalcommunities.org/lists/info/serviceplus-uv
Will the new lists be available as an instantaneous feed?
No, like the single Upper Valley list, the new lists will be available only in digest form. These digests will be sent to your inbox every day except Sunday, at 5 am. If you subscribe to all three, they should be right after one another in your inbox. If no one posts to a list the previous day, that list won’t send out a digest.
Why was this change made?
The Upper Valley List was created in 2012 as a place for people to post content pertaining to many towns in the Upper Valley, to get them to stop posting that content to town lists. Town lists stop feeling “hyperlocal” if too much of the content is about stuff from farther away. For some time, the Upper Valley List has been long, with up to 100 items each day, all unsorted. While some like it as is, others found it uninviting. After extensive meetings this fall led by Vital Communities staff and involving the dozens of volunteers who manage the Upper Valley list and the 40-plus town lists, a plan was made to split the lists into three so that the two biggest categories – EVENTS and GOODS – would have their own lists.
