The owner and operator of Claremont Spice and Dry Goods, Benjamin joined Vital Communities in 2020 and is also a member of the Claremont Savings Bank Board of Corporators. Food is a passion of his; studying agricultural history at Dartmouth College, working on diversified farms throughout the Upper Valley, and now owning a spice store in Claremont in which they are ever expanding their locally produced offerings, he has a dedication to what food and feeding ourselves means to a community and a sense of place in history. “I’m a farmer at heart, and working with biological production systems is never easy. Around the world and throughout history, farming has been the most accessible answer to how people can sustain themselves and their communities. While not the most profitable venture, the economic accessibility, sustainability, and cultural underpinning of farming still drive that love in people today and are even present in those who don’t want to work or think about agriculture – everyone needs to eat. My desire to work with Vital Communities comes from the same desire I have to plant nut trees. I may never eat and enjoy the fruits of my labor but for generations to come the sustainable assets and impacts that I plant with Vital Communities will bear and continue to bear great harvest for Upper Valley when I am long gone.”
