John Drew joined Vital Communities in August of 2022 as the Director of Place-Based Learning. He spent a long-time as a biology and environmental science teacher and school administrator, seeking to help students develop an appreciation for a sense of place and their important role in a host of interconnected systems. He also draws experience from volunteering on the board of a small permaculture nonprofit in New Hampshire, and on an allocations committee for a town nonprofit in Massachusetts. As a track and basketball coach John sought the beautiful and sometimes elusive moments that help disparate groups of people begin to appreciate each other as a team. He and his wife enjoy Nordic skiing and hiking and are always looking for new trails to run, and books to read. “I’m excited to support the place-based approach Vital Communities offers to encourage people to develop the partnerships, passions and skills that the world needs from all of us.”
